So, this has been a while between issuing and posting, but one of our makers, Melissa, was issued with a Battery Backup when she arrived at the Melbourne artists forum for Joyaviva in March 2012, a whopping one hour late… Whoops! Given that she was moving to the ‘States 2 days later, all was forgiven, but keen to help her in any way possible keep that deadline, curator Kevin Murray gifted her a charm from his personal set. And that’s how one of our makers came to receive some battery backup, to help out at a time when her energy reserves were low.

Two of our wonderful charm recipients have been in contact, through Christine their charm-er. They describe, on their recipient report cards, how the charm made them feel, and their frequency of wear. If you recall from the previous post Rachael was losing her chicken eggs to crows, while Margarita was missing her mother.

It seems that when the feelings (that these pieces were prescribed for) were acute the wearers were donning them more frequently. As the anxiety subsides, wearing becomes less frequent.

Thank you both so much for sharing, and Christine too for prescribing the charms and providing the images.

Charmer Thea went into work one day, and was almost immediately put to work making a charm for a complete stranger. As she put it, “I didn’t know the student who I made the charm for (hence I don’t know her name!) she just looked so upset when she came into the nursing lab and I thought ‘ah-ha! I have just the thing for this!’ Hopefully it emboldened her a little to continue her hospital placement.”

I like to hope that it did, too.

Chloe has been busy, very busy. She’s a right good charmer, too!

Chloe has been charming friends locally and internationally, with a little help from the post office. She’s operating with a Battery Backup card, so she’s been charging up her friends to help them be creative and to give them a boost of energy.

First up was Reiko, in the studio, and Yuko, in same. Then three others in quick succession, in farther flung locations. A good reminder that a charm can cross many borders.
